This paper defines and implements the first 3D MRI sequence with NON-Fourier encoding for accelerated acquisition. It breaks the acceleration barrier of Fourier under-sampling state-of-the-art. It opens a new paradigm for MR sequence acceleration, a major challenge towards early clinical diagnosis for improved healthcare at lower cost. Reviews are published in invited magazine articles (http://digital.studio-web.be/digitalMagazine?issue_id=182; http://www.larecherche.fr/actualite/mathematiques/signaux-comprimes-a-enregistrement-01-10-2010-69512). It triggered collaborative Swiss NSF research grants (205321_138311, £110k; 205321_141283, £210k ; 205321_132821, £110k). Theoretical optimality demonstrated by Wiaux in DOI:10.1186/1687-6180-2012-6.
