Additional information

<15> This research was motivated by our participation in the BBSRC-funded ISPIDER project, which developed the first integrated web service for proteomics, offering search capabilities over several major proteomics resources. That project identified as an open problem the lack of support for fine-grained data integration in Grid data access and querying middleware. This paper undertakes the first performance evaluation of such functionality, utilising an architecture we proposed at DILS’06 – work that has been extensively cited in Google Scholar. While motivated by ISPIDER, our findings are applicable to any domain requiring fine-grained data integration and distributed querying over Grid-enabled data sources.
