Additional information
This paper develops and validates mathematical models for the noise generated by the acceleration of temperature variations at the exit of a gas turbine combustor. The conference version of this paper was awarded 1st Prize in the Young Scientist Competition at the 6th European Aeronautics Days 2011 conference in Madrid. The findings of the paper contributed directly to the award of a prestigious ERC Starting Grant proposal (ACOULOMODE, PI: Morgans, 2013-2018) to further investigate entropy/acoustic interactions and their importance to both combustion instability and aero-engine noise.
