Significance of output:

This is the first paper to propose the non-coherent differential space-time spreading combined with the multi-dimensional sphere packing modulation in a full system design. The value of this is that it reduces the receiver design complexity and improves the bandwidth-efficiency by eliminating the pilot-overhead. It also opens further avenues for holistic system optimisation in radio-frequency and optical communications. Furthermore, a 713-page Wiley-IEEE book was published. The paper presents the theoretical limits for the system capacity and quantifies these limits using both semi-analytical methods and simulations.
