Significance of output:

This paper is the first report on a model that fully describes wrist, finger and thumb movement. It constitutes a significant advance over previous models in that it identifies marker placements on the human body that are repeatable. Its use offers clinicians significant benefits in treating hand dysfunction such as arthritis leading to more efficient recuperation. The model has been applied to other discipline e.g. in a study of the motion of the hands in piano playing. The work has led to patent application GB1003883.4.
