Significance of output:

A novel (de)multiplexer in silicon-on-insulator suitable for Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing was reported.

Experimental verification of our previous theoretical publications and patents/applications (US7003194, US7062124, P270082D). Collaboration with Qinetiq (Mike Jenkins, profmikejenkins@gmail.com) within a £5 million EPSRC UK Silicon Photonics programme (EP/F001428/1, 2008-2013). This (de)multiplexer has better fabrication tolerances and is much easier to fabricate than standard devices used in silicon photonic. It is now a crucial part of photonic/electronic integrated transmitter and receiver being developed with PLX Technology, USA (Reggie Conley, RConley@plxtech.com) and it led to a £50k EPSRC KTS award.
