Antennas and Propagation of Implanted RFIDs for Pervasive Healthcare Applications
Demonstrates the use of Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags as implantable devices which can be integrated with body-centric wireless communication systems. Has potential for reducing medical errors and improving the quality of healthcare in hospitals. Work developed from several Dstl funded projects, concerning wearable textile antennas for communications among foot-mounted soldiers, which have potentials to save their lives in Afghanistan. (Contact: Gary Pettitt, Dstl, gpettitt@mail.dstl.gov.uk) In terms of healthcare applications, the related knowledge has been transferred to Philips, GE healthcare and Toumaz Technologies. Antennas designed for Toumaz have obtained CE mark and some of them are currently under clinic trials in London.
