Additional information

This paper contains the first published examples of (i) controlled bioaerosol experiments used to validate CFD models and (ii) zonal source represention of time averaged spatially distributed bioaerosols. Previous studies have only validated bioaerosol models with tracer gases and inert particles, not living organisms. The zonal source is a novel development to model bacteria released from the skin, where-as previously only coughing had been considered. This use of advanced CFD techniques to analyse pathogen dispersion highlights significant new considerations for ward design.
