Additional information

Knowing the noise performance of electrodes is important when dealing with very small amplitude signals, such as those from neural tissue. Conventional methods involve tedious mathematical calculation and analysis in the frequency domain. The paper tackled signal-noise separation in a new perspective, which is very accurate and much easier for characterising noise from platinum electrodes. The discovery is important and has been adopted by a world leading institute, IMTEK (www.imtek.de) of the University of Freiburg, for routine characterization of their Platinum microelectrodes (contact: Dr Martin Schuettler).
