Additional information

Many pharmaceutical tablets are based on the controlled release of an active ingredient into the body. Here we show that terahertz imaging can determine the rate of release of the active ingredient and the role of internal structure in determining this. This is a completely new approach based on academic-industrial collaboration, (TeraView). It allows non-invasive imaging to provide information on tablet action not provided by other techniques and act as a substitute for dissolution studies in determining the biological action of a tablet. The use of this technology by the pharmaceutical industry is presented in http://www.teraview.com/news/terahertz-news/recent-progress-terahertz-pharmaceutical-research.html (TeraView sales exceed £4M).
