Transmission of Gb/s DPSK Millimeter-Wave Wireless Data Over Fiber Using Low-Cost Uncooled Devices With Remote 40-GHz Local Oscillator Delivery
Demonstrated the novel use of uncooled, directly modulated lasers in a mm-wave transmission system with significant cost saving compared to using lasers requiring active temperature regulation. The optical generation and remote delivery of the local oscillator investigated were employed in a project “Short Range 10 Gb/s THz Communications: Proof of Concept” sponsored by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research (Grant no.: FA8655-09-1-3078). This work has in part led to an invitation to serve as a member of the Technical Program Committee for the Annual Meetings of the IEEE Photonics Society from 2009 to 2011.
