Additional information
This paper has underpinned on-going research into the use of germanium as a material for future semiconductor devices. An EPSRC first grant, Nanoscale Germanium Electronics (EP/I02865X/1), was funded based on the work and a subsequent collaboration with German microelectronics company IHP has been established, with the goal of research, leading to both photonic and hybrid devices using germanium. Two papers are imminent. The company has signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement with UCL and a project specific agreement with Dr Curson, and become a project partner in a joint Imperial College-UCL Centre for Doctoral Training submission (£4.7M).
