The cases analysed were the first 300 that were published between the dates of the research. Cases of registered teachers who were disciplined but not working in schools at the time were omitted as were those few cases of teachers in Further Education colleges. This achieved consistency in the sample focusing only on primary, secondary and special school sectors. This paper is the first of its kind to analyse GTCE teacher misbehaviour data and begins an important area of future enquiry in the area of teacher professionalism.
