Additional information

This research, and associated ‘open-source’ source code [https://github.com/stevenblair/rapid61850], is an accelerator for the uptake and research of solutions adopting IEC61850. This fundamentally new method of developing 61850 communication and data presentation systems is extremely fast compared to commercially available software. Whilst only published recently, it has already been exploited by academic and industrial users (e.g. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory). Major Australian utility, Energex, is using this tool to develop and test IEC61850 solutions [neilhiggins@energex.com.au]. An open-source power quality meter derived from this work has been built and released [http://stevenblair.github.io/discover/] and an Alcatel-Lucent funded project [£5k, peter.johnson@alcatel-lucent.com] commenced in 2013.
