Additional information

Reports novel contributions to the design and operation of plasma closing switches resulting from a sustained programme of international research collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories  (USA) [£250k, 2005-2010] under the particle beam fusion accelerator upgrade programme ‘Fundamental science investigations to develop laser triggered gas switch for ZR’ [Dr Jane Lehr, jmlehr@unm.edu]. This research, into the design and practical applications of corona stabilised switches, successfully demonstrated the viability of multi-stage switching topologies that removed a critical barrier to higher voltage operation thereby enabling wider and more effective utilisation of advanced plasma closing switch technology.
