Detection of Coronary Artery Anomalies in Infants and Young Children with Congenital Heart Disease by Using MR Imaging
MRI of the coronary arteries in adults is limited. However, this is less relevant in children where the target is mainly the proximal and mid-portion of the coronary arteries. This study demonstrates for the first time the feasibility of MRI coronary artery imaging in a large paediatric patient cohort (n=100) including very young children. As the technique was successful in 88% of children >4 months there is great potential of this technique to replace CT or invasive angiography in a large number of children. The easy to use, very reproducible MRI sequence is now accepted as a clinical standard worldwide.
