Additional information

Vincendeau was responsible for the new (2009) edition of this much quoted but long out of print 1968 collection on the French New Wave. She selected the additional essays, including François Truffaut’s canonical ‘A Certain Tendency in French Cinema’ (which was absent from the 1968 edition) and commissioned a new, accurate translation of it. Her own lengthy introductory essay "Fifty Years of the French New Wave: From Hysteria to Nostalgia" (p1-29) )identifies an original historical trajectory (‘from hysteria to nostalgia’) in the voluminous writings on the movement. The new book’s influential status in film studies is illustrated by the fact that it is already in its third reprint.
