Additional information

The work reported in this paper was conducted in collaboration with Schlumberger Cambridge Research (SCR), UK and The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, Aberdeen, UK. In totality, the collaboration yielded two other published papers and two PhD studentships in MERI fully funded by SCR. The accurate and quantitative mineralogical method devised here outperforms previous technology in that it provides rapid analysis without complex equipment or interpretation. It is, therefore, highly suited to off-shore analysis.
