The feasibility of decontamination of reduced saline sediments from copper using the electrokinetic process
This study investigated the effectiveness of electrokinetic process in the removal of copper from reduces sediments in Pagham Harbour, the UK. Electrokinetic can be applied for the in-situ soil remediation but there is no data about its efficiency in the removal of heavy metals from reduces sediments. The process was an interdisciplinary between the school of the environment and the school of bimolecular engineering. The process showed the impact of organic matters and sulphide on the removal of heavy metals in estuaries. Copper was the trace metal to be investigated the reduced sediments because samples taken from the harbour showed a trace concentration of this element and it is attributed to wastewater discharge from a nearby petrochemical refinery.
