Multi-objective evolutionary–fuzzy augmented flight control for an F16 aircraft
The techniques developed in this paper provide unprecedented degrees of control freedom to flight control algorithms. They are being applied to the flight controller for the FP7 ACHEON Project funded under FP7 AAT.2012.6.3-2 Radical New Concepts for Air Transport (http://acheon.eu), which seeks to develop a completely novel thrust vectoring technology. The fuzzy-augmented flight controller will find its largest area of application and further development in UAVs and military aircraft as a key enabling technology for aircraft without conventional flight control surfaces, and provides unparalleled levels of maneuverability.
This paper won the Charles Sharpe Beecher Prize in 2010. (http://pig.sagepub.com/cgi/collection/csbprize)
