Additional information
Paper shows close agreement with existing Large-eddy Simulations at low Reynolds number and low spin ratios. Excellent agreement with most experiments at high spin ratios. Demonstrates for the first time that the addition of discs to the spinning cylinder (as proposed by Thom) is not desirable. Explains why Thom’s data exhibit anomalous behavior, why relatively simple eddy viscosity models do as well as stress-transport schemes for that flow and, finally, how negative drag coefficients arise when discs are present.
