This paper was identified by “Global Medical Discovery” as being of “special interest to the drug development sector” (Dr Rob Smith, Rob.smith@globalmedicaldiscovery.com), and was elected by the Journal of Visualised Experiments to create a film (J Vis Exp, 10(62), 2012). The research described let to a Patent application (GB1019932.1), and establishment of a collaboration with the National Blood Service (Dr. Ash Toye; ash.m.toye@bristol.ac.uk).. The research was featured by Research Councils UK as one of the “Big Ideas UK” revolutionary projects (http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/Publications/reports/Pages/BigIdeas.aspx) and led directly to an ERC Advanced Investigator Award on “BioBlood” (ERC-2013-Adv-340719/€2.5M).
