Additional information

The paper presents the first application of a falsification strategy to a musculoskeletal model of the lower limb. Falsification challenges the model to produce output that can be compared to measured values. Full validation of biomedical models is not feasible and falsification presents a viable alternative philosophical approach. The study described in the paper elucidated areas in which the developed model, as well as other models published by international research groups, could be improved. A new approach to improve the volumetric and structural computational representation of muscles is being developed, and collaborative talks have been held with Dassault Systèmes.
