Water Injection Effects on the Performance and Emission Characteristics of a CI Engine Operating with Biodiesel
As use of bio-diesel becomes common in internal combustion engines, the management of consequential regulated and unregulated emissions from such systems is becoming very important. This paper suggests a simple system i.e., water injection that can be used to manage NOx emissions (which are very harmful for the environment) from Industry standard Compression Ignition Engines which use Bio-diesel in various proportions. It has been shown that water injection in suitable proportion can bring down the NOx emission by about 50% without compromising the power characteristics of the engine. This University sponsored work is being targetted for commercial application.
