Use of a novel dual-sensor probe array and electrical resistance tomography for characterization of the mean and time-dependent properties of inclined, bubbly oil-in-water pipe flows
Previous work in characterising time dependent multiphase flows has concentrated on measurement of local properties at a single axial location. This paper which is an output from EPSRC grant EP/E027237/1 (PI G. Lucas) shows how, by using an array of local probes, time dependent variations in the local flow properties in the axial direction can be measured. The novel measurement technique was applied to stratified, inclined oil-in-water flows in which systems of Kelvin-Helmholtz waves are present and was successfully used to measure the formation and decay of such K-H waves and to validate numerical models of multiphase flow.
