Additional information

The structural behaviour of steel-fibre-reinforced concrete (SFRC) was studied using nonlinear finite-element analysis, employing ABAQUS software. An interesting feature of this work is the consideration of statically-indeterminate SFRC columns; as most of the literature on SFRC is focused on simply-supported beams. In addition, both axial and lateral loads were also examined in order to allow for compression and flexural effects on the columns. The fibres are utilised in order to enhance the properties of an inherently brittle and crack-prone cement-based matrix. The full practical range of fibres was considered, leading to design recommendations that will benefit the construction industry.
