Additional information

Transient strain is usually ignored in design and modelling of structures in fire. This research (partially funded by Corus Group Ltd.) exposed the danger of such negligence – not considering transient strain may over predict fire resistance of concrete or steel-concrete composite columns. Fire engineering software, such as Safier, has recently been updated to account for transient strain. This paper has also bridged the gap between micro-mechanics-based modelling and structural modelling of transient strain.
