The Little Republic: Masculinity and Domestic Authority in Eighteenth-Century Britain
This item is based on a large volume of printed and archival material, and some visual and material sources, collected from across the UK and North America. This material was examined using several methodological approaches, including sustained intertextual readings from cultural history and local and family reconstruction from social history. The research took 9 years (first funded in 2003).The argument of the book is a complex one, applied to men of different social ranks over a long period and which has implications for the history of gender and family. Its weight is at least as great as two single outputs.
