Electrospun fibro-porous polyurethane coatings for implantable glucose biosensors
Reports a development of electrospining coating of miniature sensor and the efficacy of electrospun nano-fibrous polyurethane membranes as replacements for traditional solvent cast mass-transport limiting and biocompatible coatings for implantable glucose biosensors. Systematic in vitro data demonstrate that electrospun polyurethane coatings having tailorable thickness, biomimetic structure and composition caused minimal effect on glucose biosensor function compared to traditional solvent cast membranes, and also functioned as mass-transport limiting membranes. Such a generic and well-controlled coating technique is bound to be applicable to many other implantable sensors and devices. The author made a substantial contribution to analysis and interpretation of study data.
