Additional information

This research investigates the potential of open pore metal foams as regenerators. Their performance is benchmarked against ball bearing packed beds. The foams were shown to be superior both in terms of heat transfer and pressure drop. In this inter-disciplinary collaboration with the Department of Materials Science, the metal foams are both manufactured and tested by the authors offering the potential to design more effective heat exchangers in the future. The paper is an invited feature paper for a focus issue. The work is a result of Royal Society Grant for £15,000 (124028).
