<6>This paper presents the experimental results on the Session Initiation Protocol(SIP). While there were lot of literature present on SIP at that time, this paper stands out for a couple of reasons. One the paper aims to cut past the hype of SIP and has conducted a realistic performance study and SIP’s suitability for multimedia streaming applications. Secondly, the study was done on a real-life test bed that consisted of carrier-grade equipments that would normally exist only in an operator network. The paper has been cited widely by peer researchers. The paper formed the basis for creating new streams of research within the department.
