Have you ever seen a Molecule? - An exhibition juxtaposing scientists’ and designers’ visualisation of aspects of microbiology
Wheeler was invited by CRASSH (Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Cambridge) to curate an exhibition, which aimed to juxtapose various understandings about microbiology through the perspective of scientists and designers and through this bring challenging insights to both the creative work of designers and the work of scientists. The exhibition was shown alongside an interdisciplinary conference concentrating on the correlation between science and art/design, and the impact of the arts and artistic practices on scientific culture. Wheeler also gave a lecture which focused and reflected on research by Wheeler on the impact of the interactions established during the previous Design4Science project and her subsequent research into the impact of this interdisciplinary work, suggesting ways forward for developing stronger links particularly between design and molecular biology. Wheeler’s exhibition locating artifacts produced by designers alongside scientific visualization challenged perceptions of the material and its position in society. Have you Ever Seen A Molecule was held at CRASSH (Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Cambridge).
