Additional information

The paper presents a validation of coupled fire-evacuation analysis through reconstruction of a real incident that resulted in multiple fatalities. The work has contributed to the validation of the commercial fire engineering software tools SMARTFIRE and buildingEXODUS further establishing the credibility of these tools in the fire engineering market and demonstrates how advanced simulation tools can be used to assist in forensic analysis (mburroughs@dsfire.gov.uk, Mike Burroughs, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service), opening a new research and application area. The 3D animation resulting from the analysis (YOUTUBE, http://bit.ly/1hOgotD) has achieved over 222,000 views, demonstrating strong interest in the analysis.
