The White Man’s World (240,000 words) is the first volume of the Memories of Empire trilogy, which has been Schwarz’s principal research project for some 15 years. It moves between different historical times and sites of imperial endeavour, in the UK, Australia and Southern and Central Africa over the past two centuries, based on archival research in London, Oxford, Cambridge, Stafford (Enoch Powell papers), Australia, the USA and the Caribbean, and on a range of interviews. Volume one maps and establishes the arguments for the two succeeding volumes, informed in part by the research conducted for these later instalments.
