Non-Fourier thermal transport in fractured geological media
It is well-known that solute transport in heterogeneous porous media does not follow Fick's law, i.e. it is "anomalous". Many alternative mathematical models have been developed to describe this behaviour. We demonstrate, for the first time ever, that heat transport in heterogeneous porous media can also be anomalous and no longer follows Fourier's law. Hence new mathematical models are required as well, which are currently being investigated in Australia (DOI:10.1029/2011WR011038) and Taiwan (DOI:10.5194/hess-16-641-2012). The paper was featured as a Spotlight Publication by the American Geophysical Union because of its importance to the field of earth sciences (DOI:10.1029/EO091i030p00268-04).
