Chemical current conveyor (CCCII+): System design and verification for buffer index/capacity measurement
This work describes a novel biomedical instrument based on an Ion Sensitive Field Effect Sensor (ISFET) and the author’s chemical current conveyor (CCCII+) for real-time measurement of both pH and buffer capacity (β) of biomedical fluids, such as blood. A practical device was built and tested using conventional low cost silicon CMOS technology. The authors are the first to report a combined pH and β instrument. This represents a considerable step forward in providing important clinical information, particularly for those with renal conditions. The authors are now collaborating with TMEC, Research Centre in Thailand, to take the work forward.
