Additional information

Reports results which uniquely characterise the impact of live, growing vegetation in a laboratory flume. It presents novel measurements of longitudinal mixing rates and describes a new conceptual model of mixing rates in submerged vegetation. The outputs supported a successful application on “Residence Times in Vegetated Stormwater Ponds” (EPSRC, EP/K025589/1, £335k). This research is supported by the UK Highways Agency (M. Whitehead, Principal Environmental Advisor, michael.whitehead@highways.gsi.gov.uk) and will inform the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), the HA's core policy document for design of highways drainage (www.dft.gov.uk/ha/standards/dmrb/vol4/index.htm).
