Additional information

This paper was a collaboration between Warwick and Huddersfield Universities, and covered the results of the project (EPSRC GR/S24435/01) on measurement and equipment development. This details data fusion when combining results from two different measurement systems which are both looking for surface defects in metals, focussing on a different version of data fusion to that in common use in non-destructive testing (NDT). This new method was developed mainly at Warwick with input from Sophian. This has been used by several other groups to develop data fusion of different methods for NDT (e.g. Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 45(7) 233-237 (2009)).
