Significance of output:

Middle ear infection in children is responsible for 30 million doctor visits a year in the U.S. accounting for half of all antibiotic prescriptions with an estimated cost of >$2 billion p.a. (http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-infection/understanding-otitis-media-basics). We demonstrated that PlexID a new diagnostic technology by Abbott Molecular could more accurately identify pathogens on the adenoids in children suffering from chronic ear infection, explaining why adenoidectomy can be an effective treatment. The research has been featured in the medical press (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/05/110516175342.htm; www.investorvillage.com/smbd.asp?mb=1373&mn=22093&pt=msg&mid=10596439) and sponsored presentations by Abbott Molecular in Viet Nam (http://southasia.abbottdiagnostics.com/locale/SouthAsia/martin_20110830.cfm) and the “PLEX-ID” symposium in Sweden.
