Significance of output:

This paper reports pioneering work that has been undertaken to provide a deep understanding of costs and cost drivers for very high value aerospace components. The work that Langmaak undertook was used to help design a new $170 million factory in Virginia USA (http://www.rolls-royce.com/news/press_releases/2009/090827_construction_virginia.jsp ). The site is the first Rolls-Royce manufacturing facility built from the ground up in the U.S. Simon Muschamp (Chief Cost Engineer Future Projects; simon.muschamp@rolls-royce.com ) cited this work in this paper as “vital in planning this new capability and understanding the trade-offs between conventional blades and disks and integrally machined blisks”.
