Significance of output:

A white paper about wind turbine noise (Rogers & Manwell, 2004), based on noise measurements near wind turbines at Rockport, MA, US., showed that a buffer zone of half a kilometre would be required to meet Massachusetts noise regulations. Aerofoil noise reduction would alleviate such local planning problems, leading to increased viability of renewable power generation sited near populated areas. Prior to this study there had been no direct simulations that could provide details on how serrated trailing edges reduce aerofoil noise.
