Significance of output:

This paper proposes an algorithm of the refinement of Hilbert–Huang transformation to accurately characterize time varying, multi-components inter-area oscillations. It provides a powerful tool to analyze non-stationary spatial data, to be used in real time oscillation monitoring applications in wide area network of power systems. This result addresses a current and challenging issue in integrating various power generators (fossil fuel, wind, solar, etc.). It allows monitoring that supports safer automation in power network applications. This paper is an outcome of EPSRC Research Grant EP/E3032435/1, in collaboration with ABB (Switzerland) and National Grid (UK). It has 23 citations from 2009.
