Density−Viscosity Product of Small-Volume Ionic Liquid Samples Using Quartz Crystal Impedance Analysis
Over the past decade, ionic liquids have been developed as alternative, environment friendly, solvents. If ionic liquids are to be tailored to meet industrial needs, the physical property database needs to be expanded substantially. This is the first report of the quartz crystal microbalance being used to measure the density-viscosity product using small volumes of ionic liquid. Result of an EPSRC funded project (EP/D03826X/1; PI:McHale) with Sheffield University (EP/D038995/1) and Queen's University Belfast (EP/D038294/1) to develop high-throughput, lab-on-a-chip techniques. It was the basis of an invited presentation at the IEEE-FCS meeting in Hawaii in 2008 (Group 4 Sensors).
