Additional information

This paper reports interdisciplinary research, based on a 10 year international collaboration with Dalian, China, which led to 27 joint publications since 2008. We applied engineering principles, experimental design methods and quantification, to the evaluation of the functions and potentials of human adipose-derived stem cells. The reported results have been widely used as a benchmark, and the protocols developed have been adopted by many groups worldwide (Louvain, Belgium; Sapienza, Italy; Zurich, Switzerland; Lyon, France; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Liverpool, UK; Erlangen and Hanover, Germany; Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; North Carolina and LA, USA).
