Double-weighted statement

This interdisciplinary work provides a novel approach to film history, focusing on the activities of the amateur enthusiast in the high period of personal film-making. Though based around the collections of the North-West Film Archive it makes extensive use of a wide range of amateur film from archives across England as well as extensive reading of the amateur film press. It deploys a cultural and film history approach underpinned by the traditional concerns of social history to place the films in the context of mid-twentieth century social life.
