English abstract
This is the second volume of a two-volume edition of ballets danced at the court of Louis XIII between 1622 and 1638. It focuses on the burlesque with a view to highlighting the ambivalence, if not the outright subversive nature of works whose incorporation of carnival culture functioned as a counterpoint to the official culture conveyed by the political ballets discussed in volume 1. Burlesque ballets also testified to the continued presence of a variety of voices and points of view, which could be seen as symbolic of the power struggle between the monarchy and the Grands.
