The cry of the owl: investigating decision-making in a contemporary feature film
This output is submitted with a supporting output: Gibbs, J. (2010) ‘Sleeping with half open eyes: dreams and realities in The Cry of the Owl’. Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism (1). pp. 1-17. ISSN 2047-1661. These two articles are both part of a project to bring together traditions of detailed criticism with those of production history. The main output is the 2011 article, where the focus is explicitly on this methodological dialogue, and where the insights drawn from the production history are presented; the 2010 article has a supporting role, providing a broader interpretative context. The earlier article had also a significant role in the launch of Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism (the first issue of which Gibbs edited with Gallafent (Warwick)) where it helps establish this reinvention of Movie’s commitment to contemporary cinema, and reconnects with the tradition of championing films unjustly neglected.
