Additional information

A novel approach to the manufacture of ultrasound arrays is required to meet the demands of researchers in the life sciences. This paper has succeeded in demonstrating miniaturisation of electrodes and hence an improvement in spatial resolution using integrated circuit fabrication processes. A number of papers have followed this work and collaborations with national and international institutions including skin lesion imaging by the Institute of Cancer Research and the development of signal processing electronics by Penn State University. Further funding was obtained to develop the concept and US Patent (US2013/0020907) is pending to protect the details of manufacture.
