Additional information

Authoritative segmentations of human brain images remain a critical and scarce resource in neuroscience. This is evidenced by the citation rate for our earlier work on brain atlases, despite being limited to only 49 anatomically regions (Hammers, Hum Brain Mapping, 2003, >250 citations]. With support from the EPSRC, we created a far more detailed protocol to segment adult brains into 83 regions. We then developed registration strategies to automatically segment MR images of children as young as two years and have made these available as a resource to the community (www.braindevelopment.org).
