Double-weighted statement

This monograph presents a comprehensive history of the saxophone. The musical contexts in which this instrument is found and the relative paucity of earlier saxophone scholarship necessitated the collection and analysis of a considerable body of primary and secondary sources. The primary sources, notably surviving instruments, were distributed in libraries and museums around the world. Thus visits were undertaken throughout the UK, as well as Brussels, Paris, New York and beyond. This presentation of critical insights into 175 years of saxophone history and development therefore required an especially long period of data collection.
